Christ Is Our Wisdom. We Will Never Be Wise Unless We Build Our Lives On Him.

Scripture speaks of different kinds of ‘wisdom’. In Proverbs, wisdom is closely associated with godliness. In Ecclesiastes, wisdom - viewed as mere human intelligence - is described as ‘meaningless, a chasing after the wind’ (Proverbs 1:12-18). This contrast is continued in the New Testament, where Paul describes Christ as our ‘Wisdom’, contrasting this Wisdom with ‘the wisdom of the world’ (1 Corinthians 1:18-25,30). The purpose of Proverbs is set out in its opening verses. Notice the vital connection between ‘understanding’ and ‘doing’ (Proverbs 1:2-3). We are to be ‘doers’ as well as ‘hearers’ of God’s Word (James 1:22). We are to ‘keep what is written’ in God’s Word (Revelation 1:3). The great theme of Proverbs is stated in 1:7 - ‘The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge’. Christ is our Wisdom. We will never be wise unless we build our lives on Him (Matthew 7: 24-27).

When We Sin, We Must Trust In Our ‘Redeemer’ - The Lord Jesus Christ

‘If you have sinned’ (Job 35:6). Let’s think about Job, Jesus and ourselves. (a) ‘Job feared God and shunned evil’ (Job 1:1). He was not being singled out for special punishment - because he was much more sinful than anyone else. This does not mean he had never sinned (Job 7:21; 13:26). (b) There is only One Man ‘without sin’ - our Lord Jesus Christ (Hebrews 4:14-16). Did this mean that Jesus did not suffer? No! - ‘He suffered for us...He bore our sins...He died for us...He died for our sins’ (1 Peter 2:21-24; Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:3). (c) There’s no ‘if’ about it! When we sin - What are we to do? Like Job, we must trust in our ‘Redeemer’ - the Lord Jesus Christ (Job 19:25). He gives ‘quietness’ and ‘songs in the night’ (Job 34:29; 35:10). ‘Be still and know that He is God. Shout for joy to Him’ (Psalms 46:10; 98:4).

God Is Not Exalted Because We Exalt Him. We Exalt Him Because He Is Exalted.

‘I will exalt You, O Lord’(Psalm 30:1). God is not exalted because we exalt Him. We exalt Him because He is exalted: ‘He is exalted, for ever exalted, and I will praise His Name’(Mission Praise,217). How do we come to the point where we say, ‘I will exalt You, O Lord’? We realize our need of Him - ‘when You hid Your face, I was dismayed’(Psalm 30:7). We look to Him for mercy - ‘To You, O Lord, I called; to the Lord, I cried for mercy’(Psalm 30:8). God hears and answers our prayer - ‘You turned my wailing into dancing; You removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy’(Psalm 30:11). God calls us to worship Him - ‘Sing praises to the Lord, O you His saints, and give thanks to His holy Name’(Psalm 30:4). ‘The joy of the Lord’, His ‘unutterable and exalted joy’, gives us ‘strength’(Nehemiah 8:10; 1 Peter 1:8). We worship God: ‘O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever’(Psalm 30:12).

Let Christ’s Love Give You Strength - To Keep On Serving Him.

So many instructions - Don’t get bogged down in details. Remember this: We do not live by an ethic of legalism. This is an ethic of redemption (Exodus 21:1-2). Forget the God of redemption, and you have nothing but a lot of rules and regulations. Become obsessed with rules and regulations, and there will be no room for the Redeemer and His redemption. ‘Earmarked’ for Jesus, we are to ‘serve Him for life’ (Exodus 21:6). No turning back! We are bound to Him by love - not law! What love He has for us! Exodus 21:30 speaks of ‘ransom’ and ‘redemption’: What great words of the Gospel (Mark 10:45; 1 Peter 1:18-19)! ‘Eye for eye...’ (Exodus 21:24) - This limits vengeance. Remember: Love is the answer - not vengeance (Leviticus 19:18)! Let Christ’s love give you strength - to keep on serving Him (Galatians 2:20; Philippians 1:6).

"God speaks to us ... "

God speaks to us of His love. He tells us that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

-------------------

Job 38:39- 40:14

"I am unworthy - how can I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth...I have no answer...I will say no more" (40:3-5). God speaks to us about our sin: "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." He tells us that "all our righteous acts are like filthy rags." Why does God speak to us like this? He speaks "so that every mouth may be silenced" (Romans 3:23, 19; Isaiah 64:6). We must stop talking about our own righteousness and start listening to what God is saying to us. He speaks to us of "His love." He tells us that, "while we were sinners, Christ died for us." This is Good News - "the blood of Jesus, God's Son, cleanses us from all sin." No more excuses - "I'm not such a bad person. I'm really quite good!" Let's "confess our sins" and receive God's forgiveness (Romans 5:8; 1 John 1:7-10).

Worship The Lord And Work For Him.

‘Work in the Temple of the Lord’ (2 Chronicles 4:11; 5:1) is no ordinary work. This work is ‘most holy’ (2 Chronicles 3:8, 10; 4:22). Real work for the Lord emerges out of true worship of the Lord. If we are to be the Lord’s workers, we must first be His worshippers. Worship comes first. This is vitally important. Take away worship from the place of highest priority, and you have nothing left - nothing which can really be called the work of the Lord. You may have busy people, doing this, that and the other, but you will not have servants of the Lord doing the work of the Lord - without worship. We sometimes ask, “Where are the workers?”. God asks, “Where are the worshippers?”. Begin to worship the Lord. Keep on worshipping Him. Worship the Lord, and let Him show you ‘what you must do’ (Acts 9:3-6).

True Spiritual Worship - The Dedication Of Our Lives To the Lord

David called God’s people to worship. They were ‘to raise sounds of joy’, praising the Lord with ‘loud music’. David did not leave it to others. He gave the lead. Along with all the others, he was there, ‘dancing and making merry’. He was a true spiritual leader. He ‘blessed the people in the Name of the Lord’. He called upon the people to ‘praise the Lord’ (1 Chronicles 16:16,28-29,2,4). God calls us to worship Him continually’ (1 Chronicles 16:6). May God help us to be the kind of people who take ‘delight in the Word of the Lord, meditating on His Word day and night’ (Psalm 1:2). Our meditation on God’s Word is to be accompanied by obedience to His Word - ‘be careful to do according to all that is written in it’ (Joshua 1:8). This is the true ‘spiritual worship’ God is looking for - the dedication of our lives to Him (Romans 12:1).

Open Your Heart To Christ (Revelation 3:20).

"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20).
As we read the Book of Revelation, let us make sure that we never overlook this very important verse. This is God's Word to us at the beginning of the Christian life. This is God's Word to us at every stage in the Christian life. May God give us grace, day-by-day, to open our hearts afresh to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

An Open Door (Revelation 3:8)

"I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name" (Revelation 3:8).
We read here of "an open door." As we think of the open door of opportunity, let us think first of the opening of our heart to the Lord. Let us remember this. The blessing of fruitfulness is given to those who seek to maintain the obedience of faithfulness. Let us open our hearts to Christ, and let us pray that He will open for us a door of opportunity to bring blessing into the lives of others.

Let's Pray For More Than Just "A Few People" (Revelation 3:4)!

"Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy" (Revelation 3:4). A few people! - Let us pray that there will be more than just a few!

More Listening To The Lord And Less Listening To The World (Revelation 2:20)

"Nevertheless,I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols (Revelation 2:20).
Too much listening to the world and not enough listening to the Word of God creates problems. We are led astray - away from the Lord's way and into the world's way.

"The Words Of The Son Of God" (Revelation 2:18)

"To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze" (Revelation 2:18).
As we read these words, we must pray for a fresh awareness that, in Scripture, we hear "the words of the Son of God."

Why Is The Church In Such A Terrible State (Revelation 2:15-16)?

"Likewise you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth" (Revelation 2:15-16).
Why is the Church in such a terrible state? The explanation is clear - Compromise. We are too busy listening to the world. We are not busy enough, listening to God's Word.

Faithful To The End (Revelation 2:10)

"Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life" (Revelation 2:10).
Here, we have God's call to faithfulness. He is calling us to be faithful to the end. Let us pray that God will give us His strength so that we may remain faithful to Him throughout our earthly journey.

"You Have Forsaken Your First Love" (Revelation 2:4).

"Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love" (Revelation 2:4).
This is one of the saddest verses in the whole of the Bible. It tells the story of so many of us. Let us pray that this will not happen to us.

"The Seven Churches" And "The Seven Spirits" (Revelation 1:4-5)

The "seven churches" are first mentioned in Revelation 1:4 - "John, To the seven churches in the province of Asia." The next verse speaks of "the seven spirits who are before His throne" - Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits[a] before his throne, 5and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth (Revelation 1:5). Here, we should note that, in Scripture, the number "seven" is the number of perfection, the number which speaks of wholeness and completeness. The "seven spirits" speak of the fullness and perfection of the Person and Work of the Holy Spirit. The "seven churches" speak of the whole Church in every age and every place. The messages in the second and third chapters of Revelation can be applied to the Church in every age and every place. When God speaks to "the seven churches", He is speaking to your church and my church. He is speaking to all of the churches.

"On The Island Of Patmos" And "In The Spirit" (Revelation 1:9-10)

In the early chapters of Revelation, the importance of keeping the Word of God is emphasized by two significant factors - (a) the context in which John received this "revelation of Jesus Christ"; (b) the messages spoken by Jesus Christ to "the seven churches." (a) John was on the island of Patmos - "I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus" (Revelation 1:9). He was also in the Spirit - On the Lord's Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet (Revelation 1:10).In the midst of persecution, there came "the revelation of Jesus Christ." There is alesson for us here. If you are faithful to God and His Word, there may be persecution, but there will also be blessing.

How Are We To Read The Book Of Revelation?

How are we to read the Book of Revelation? - We are to read it with a view to keeping it (or living according to its teaching) - Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near (Revelation 1:3). Here, God is promising that His blessing will be given to those who read, hear and keep the words of this prophecy. Reading and hearing are important, but they are not enough. The blessing comes where there is reading, hearing and keeping the Word of God.

Is The Book Of Revelation Really So Different From The Rest Of The New Testament?

When we read this book, we will find that there are many questions we cannot answer, many things that we cannot explain. Nevertheless, there is one thing we must never forget - This is "the revelation of Jesus Christ." Whenever you're having difficulty understanding this mysterious book, remember its first five words - "the revelation of Jesus Christ."Some people dismiss the Book of Revelation because it seems so different from the rest of the New Testament. This book contains many symbols which are difficult to understand. Nevertheless, we must ask, "Is it really so different from the rest of the New Testament?"
* The Book of Revelation speaks much of the Second Coming of Christ. So did Jesus! So did Paul! So did Peter!
* The Book of Revelation calls us to get ready for the Lord's Return. So do the Gospels! So do the New Testament Letters, written by faithful men like Paul and Peter. The triumphant message, proclaimed in the Book of Revelation, - Jesus is Lord - is the message of the whole New Testament. The Book of Revelation may proclaim this great message in its own distinctive way. It is not, however, saying anything essentially different from the rest of the New Testament. Surely, if we are to understand all that Jesus Christ, we must not forget to read the last book of the Bible.

The Devil Wants You To Ignore The Book Of Revelation.

The devil wants you to ignore the Book of Revelation. Why? - Because this book - more than any other - proclaims the devil's ultimate defeat and final destruction. This is why Satan wants you to remain ignorant of the great message contained in the Book of Revelation. What is the one great message of the Book of Revelation? - It is quite simply this: Jesus is Victor! Jesus is Lord. Our God reigns. This is the great message of hope which the Book of Revelation teaches us.

God Wants You To Read The Book Of Revelation.

God wants you to read the Book of Revelation. Did you know that this book is the only New Testament book which contains a promise of blessing upon those who read it? - - Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near (Revelation 1:3).

Reading The Book Of Revelation

The Book of Revelation is the most mysterious and most difficult book in the entire Bible. This doesn't mean that we should read it. When you read a book, it doesn't make sense to stop reading it before you;'ve read the last chapter - yet that is exactly what many people do with the Bible. They stop short of the last book - the Book of Revelation. Why should we read the Book of Revelation? Here are two good reasons - (i) God wants you to read it; (ii) The devil wants you to ignore it.

"In Every Human Heart ... "

In every human heart, there is a God-shaped blank. It can only be filled by Jesus Christ.

----

"God has put eternity into man's mind" (Ecclesiastes 3:11). In every human heart, there is a God-shaped blank. It can only be filled by Jesus Christ. Many people try to find true happiness without opening their heart to Jesus Christ. That's like "trying to catch the wind" (Ecclesaiastes4:16). True happiness keeps slipping through your fingers. There's always something missing - "an aching void the world can never fill" (Church Hymnary, 663). Jesus Christ stands at the door of every human heart. He knocks. He waits for your answer. He says, "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in... " (Revelation 3:20). Will you invite him into your heart? He is waiting for you to pray, "Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. Come in today. Come in to stay. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus."

"God Speaks To Us ... "

God speaks to us of His love. He tells us that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

-------------------

"I am unworthy - how can I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth...I have no answer...I will say no more" (Job 40:3-5).

The Wise & The Foolish

Mat 25:1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

Mat 25:2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

Mat 25:3 They that [were] foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

Mat 25:4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

Mat 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

Mat 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

Mat 25:7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

Mat 25:8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

Mat 25:9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

Mat 25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

Yet both were virgins...

You Must Be Aware Of These Things

2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

A Promise From God To His Called

2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
