God's Wake-Up Call

God wants us to ‘grow up in every way into Christ’(Ephesisns 4:15). We are to ‘walk in love’(Ephesians 5:2), a life which is ‘pleasing to the Lord’(Ephesians 5:10). It is so easy for us to settle for something less than God’s very best. We settle down into a state of spiritual complacency. What does God have to say about this? - ‘Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God’(Ephesians 4:30). He gives us His wake-up call: ‘Awake, O sleeper…’(Ephesians 5:5:14). God says to us, ‘Awake, awake, put on your strength… Shake yourself from the dust, arise’(Isaiah 52:1-2). Have you become ‘lukewarm’? - ‘Be zealous and repent’. Christ says, ‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him’(Revelation 3:16, 19-20). What will you say to Him? - ‘Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. Come in today. Come in to stay’.

Overcoming Today's "Goliaths"

David faced a giant. We face giants. His giant was called Goliath. Our "Goliaths" are the giants of unbelief and disobedience. We're told that it doesn't matter what you believe. We're told that it doesn't matter how you live. Like David, we must rise up with faith in the Lord. Like David, we must move forward in obedience to the Lord. Let us challenge today's "Goliaths" - "I come to you in the Name of the Lord ... whom you have defied."We do not face these "Goliaths" in our own weakness. We face them in the strength of the Lord. Knowing that "the battle is the Lord's", we take our stand upon the Word of God: "No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment, you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me, says the Lord" (1 Samuel 17:45-47; Isaiah 54:17).

Saul Replaced. Saul Transformed.

Two men with the same name - Saul, the first kling of Israel, and Saul of Tarsus, the persecutor of Christ and His servants.
In both stories, we read of a new man.
* In the case of Saul, the first king of Israel, David was the new man. Saul was rejected. He was replaced.
The LORD said to Samuel, "How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king ... So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed David in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came upon David in power. Samuel then went to Ramah" (1 Samuel 16:1, 13).
* In the case of Saul of Tarsus, it was very different. Saul became the new man. He became Paul the apostle. He was saved by the Lord. His life was transformed by the power of Christ's love. He became a new creation in Christ Jesus. He had this great testimony: "It is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me." (Galatians 2:20).
- We don't need to be like Saul, the first king of Israel - castaway, laid aside as of no further use (1 Corinthians 9:27).
- Each of us can be like Paul the apostle. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, we have more than Paul's own testimony. we have a call to each one of us. God is calling us to be transformed by the power of Christ's love. He is calling us to become "a new creation in Christ" - "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone. The new has come!"

From Sadness To Gladness

1 Samuel 3 begins with words of great sadness - "the Word of the Lord was rare in those days" (v.1). It ends with words of real gladness - "The Lord revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the Word of the Lord, and the word of Samuel came to all Israel" (v.21).

The Table Of The Lord Is A Good Table

Just imagine sitting at God's table in heaven. There sits Jesus at the head and all the guests have invitations to the celebration. The sounds and sites are magnificent. The room is filled with joy. There is no sickness, wars, hunger, thirst or hatred. Love, peace, joy and freedom fill the room.

Make sure that you have your invitation to the celebration.

Take Heart, Press Forward & Shake The Dust Off

Friendships is not always what it appears to be. Sometimes people let you down. Sometimes intentionally and other times un intentionally. Sometimes people wave gifts in front of you and come across as friends only to later show their true colors. Sometimes friendships prove to be less that friendships.

There is one that sticks closer than a brother. His name is Jesus, and he will never leave you, nor forsake you.

Spirit Breathed Or Error?

1Ti 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

1Ti 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

1Ti 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

1Ti 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

1Ti 2:15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

No Matter What, Remember

Life can throw us some curve balls and there's no doubt that the economy is making life difficult for many people. No matter what the situation is, what the circumstances are, or how many curve balls that life throws at you. God Love You & Cares For You!

Hang in there, preserver, overcome and be victorious.

"There's A Work For Jesus None But You Can Do."

In 1 Chronicles 9:13, we read of ‘very able men for the work of the service of the house of God’. Some have been called by God to preach His Gospel and teach His Word. All of us have been called to serve the Lord. It may not be preaching and teaching. It will be something you can do for Him. In this chapter, we read of some who were ‘chosen to be gatekeepers’, some who were ‘assigned to take care of the furnishings and all the other articles of the sanctuary...’, some who were ‘entrusted with the responsibility for baking...’ and others who were ‘singers’ or ‘musicians’ (1 Chronicles 9:22, 29, 31, 33). There’s something for everybody: ‘There`s a work for Jesus ready at your hand, `Tis a task the Master just for you has planned. Haste to do His bidding, yield Him service true; There`s a work for Jesus none but you can do.’

"Not to us, O Lord, not to us but to Your Name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness" (Psalm 115:1).

No glory to ourselves. We are sinners. All glory to the Lord. He is the Saviour.

The Garments Of The Kingdom

Eph 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Eph 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

The Love Of Christ

Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Rom 8:36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Rom 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

Rom 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Be Filled With The Spirit

Eph 5:18 Be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Eph 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Eph 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

By Grace, We Shall Stand.

‘How are the mighty fallen!’(2 Samuel 1:19,25,27). The tragedy of Saul was there for all to see. He had made a right mess of things! What are we to think when we read of this tragic figure? He started out so well. He ended so badly. There were high hopes - but it all came to nothing. Do we not see ourselves in Saul? - This could happen to me, if I’m not careful. The danger signs are there. Satan is at hand. He is ready to sweep in. He will sweep the feet away from us, if we don’t watch out. We are very weak, but the Lord is ‘able to keep us from falling’(Jude 24-25). These are things we must never forget - our own weakness and the strength of the Lord. Disaster threatens. Tragedy looms. Jesus draws near. He speaks His Word - ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness’(2 Corinthians 12:9). By grace, we shall stand!

Falling Away Through Temptation

Luk 8:11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

Luk 8:12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

Luk 8:13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

Luk 8:14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

Luk 8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

Catch A Great Book

There are so many great books authored by many wonderful men and women of God. It's nice to set back and read a good book all about God's Kingdom, promises and blessings. Let me encourage you to seek the wisdom of others that are experiencing God's provision in their lives.

Like pearls in between the covers filled with seeds that produce a great harvest. Take time, make time and read.

Jesus Is Risen From The Dead!

What does the New Testament teach us concerning Christ’s resurrection?

- (1) The resurrection was predicted in the ministry of Christ.

- (2) The resurrection was presented as a miracle of God.

- (3) The resurrection was proclaimed in the message of the Church.

-----

* How does a hopeless end become an endless hope? The answer is found in these wonderful words, which announced Christ’s resurrection - “He is not here. He has risen!” (Luke 24:6).

-----

(1) The Person of Christ – who He is.

(2) The Purpose of Christ – why He came.

(3) The Presence of Christ – how He continues to bless us today.

-----

How are we to do the work of the Lord? – “with power from on high” (Luke 24:49).

------

Here's a link to the full post from which these thoughts have been taken.

New Ministry

Last night, I began a new ministry at St Andrew's Church, Dumbarton.
